#Whocaresfortheplanet
Who cares for the Planet, no really?

Who cares for the planet? No I mean really?

Caring for our future is not just feeling sorry for the consequences of 100 years of savage industrialisation, it's acting.

Let me tell you a story: a few months ago at work during lunch time a bunch of us were debating around single usage plastic and the measures we could implement to reduce the plague, when our Human Ressources girl came in to take her own lunch.

From a plastic bag she took out 2 plastic boxes, one for her salad, the other for her desert, a plastic gobelet for her drink, plastic fork, knife and spoon.

She was the frightful incarnation of today's excesses and carelesness. The image in mind, I asked her opinion regarding the damages caused by plastic in general and more specifically single use one.

She looked at me straight in the eyes and said: « honestly ? I don't give a shit! »

And you know what? She's not an exception...

Now let's hope you are different, and you really care.

So what can you do concretely ?

Well, it is scientifically proved that if each of us reduced their consumption of energy by 5% a year, we could preserve the planet and the future of all living things on Earth.

5% is not much, it is a realistic prospect.

Below are a few examples of what can be changed in your daily life to achieve this goal easily. You can pick any of these, one or several, one is already a lot:

  • Reducing by just 1° Celsius the heating at home, work, wherever, you actually spare 7% energy. Let's imagine you usually push the thermostat to 25°C, while the recommended temperature is 19°C, then by gradually getting there, 1 degree less each year, you hit the target for 6 years ! Sorry, you're cold you say ? Well put clothes on!

  • There are indirect means to reduce energy concumption : food for instance. Mass meat production is one of the greediest industries in terms of energy and one of the cruellest towards animals. How much meat do you eat a week? Twice a day, blyme! There's field for improvement! Try and suppress meat from your evening meal, your heart and purse will thank you, the poor beasts too, and the planet will start to breathe.

  • Same for imported vegetables and fruits from the other side of the world. Stick to seasons, and let exotic delicacies remain exceptional !

  • A bath uses up about 200L of drinkable water, enough to get a family of 9 people to survive in the desert for a full week... A quick shower is more hygienic, and might relieve your conscience.

  • How many hours a day are you watching TV, playing PC games, or using any of these digital distractions? Well, how about taking one of these precious hours to read a book instead?

  • Forgot to buy butter and the local shop is only 1 km away? Well why not go on foot or get the bicycle out of the garage for once? That's as healthy as spending hundreds for your daily exercise on an electrical artificial running machine, and with no impact on the planet!

  • Didn't you tell us you had a garden? Well, what about collecting rain water and stop using drinkable water to water the garden?

  • Oooh this slice of pizza looks amazing but it would be so much better heaten up in the oven... Are you really gona work your 65L oven for just a slice of pizza? Why not using the heat of the cake you intend to bake for your little one, and put the pizza in the oven at the same time instead of wasting energy?

  • Coming back to plastic... Apart from checking that the packagings you buy are recyclable and actually recycling it, what about using alternative durable objects like shopping bags made from recylcled cloth?

  • Recycling of course! Almost anything can be recycled instead of thrown away and ending up somewhere on Earth or in the oceans. Next time you want to get rid of something, ask yourself what you could do with it first and be creative!

  • Shampoo, liquid soap, lye, detergent are always too concentrated. You can easily dilute them by 50%, get twice the quantity for the same price, and reduce by as much the quantity of chemicals polluting nature. Ain't that cool ?

That's all for today folks !

The list will be regularly increased with fresh ideas, your ideas we hope !
